PE30 or “premium” 30% ethanol is a high octane fuel made by blending E85 on top of premium E10 Gasoline. This is often referred to as “splash blending” and differs from 30% ethanol blends often offered at gas pumps. E30 offered at the pump often contains very low octane gasoline components, sometimes this can be even less than normal 87 octane. By using PE30 on direct injection engines, you maximize available octane while minimizing extra strain on the fuel pumps to deliver the extra fuel as well as taking a smaller reduction of fuel economy when compared to higher ethanol blends. Gearhead calibrations that specify E30 are actually meant for PE30 and not lesser 30% ethanol blends. If 91 octane base e10 is used for the mixes it is recommended to blend up to a 35% ethanol content to get equivalent performance. More ethanol than this may exceed the intended fuel flow requirements and thus are not recommended unless specifically discussed with the calibrator so manifold pressure maximums (boost) can be reduced.

It is recommended to install an ethanol sensor on your vehicle that can give ethanol content after filling each tank to ensure you are in the proper ethanol range.
