FICM Tuning

FICM Tuning

As new tuning technology comes along we as an industry have to adapt
to the changes.  FICM tuning has been around since Diablo was using
that for their original programming in the early days of 6.0
Powerstroke tuning.  Recently, this tuning method has become very
accessible to the masses and it is both good and bad as of 2026 and
forward.

The only issue is that Gearhead has done our best to make the cleanest
and most powerful tuning out there with the best shifting possible.
Our tuning does not need FICM tuning to be optimal and adding FICM
tuning on top of our already developed files will cause less
performance in most cases and increase emissions as well as hurting
our shifting quality among other things. We have worked very hard to
be compliant and ensure our tuning basis is as clean as possible.

We have the boost, vgt, ebp, fueling, trans pressure, trans timing,
trans shift points, timing, smoke control, max power, egts, and every
other parameter dialed in perfectly to make our tunes better.  When
you add a FICM tune it has the potential to CHANGE ALL OF THAT and
often makes it impossible to dial them back in because we can’t see
what they changed in the FICM.

The only time we recommend FICM tuning right now is on very big
Injectors to help improve idle resolution in some cases.  Even with
the big ICP mods that add power like the Warren setups, we developed
around not having readily available FICM tuning when it came out.

The economy flash from PHP doesn’t change a whole lot if you insist on
using FICM tuning with our PCM tuning.

Please consult with your tuner if you are having issues. Used trucks
often have a history where previous owners purchased FICM tuning and
then the new owner is unaware of it after purchasing custom tunes,
leading to poor performance. We see this time & time again.
