In stock form, the factory intercooler is just barely adequate to keep engine inlet temperatures in check at WOT. Turn the power up a little, and the inadequacy of the stock intercooler quickly rears its ugly head. For years, this major bottleneck was not addressed outside of custom builds that had to hack up the front crash structure to fit a front mount intercooler or something that completely changed the airflow through the factory cooling "stack" and reduced effectiveness of all the coolers in the vehicle.

We worked with CSF radiator to develop the "gateway mod" to big power on the transverse platform. On a stock car with just a tune and downpipes, this drop-in, direct-fit cooler brings back 40-45 Hp that is normally lost on a 70 degree day due to dreaded heat soak and excessive pressure drop that is all too common with the stock part. By maintaining air density and octane tolerance, this mod gives you extra power without having to refill a bottle or tank and requires no maintenance. We also included a drain plug to purge the intercooler of any condensation and oil vapor that may collect after several thousand miles of driving.

I should have purchased this earlier before the price increase but then shipping to Hawaii would have made this pretty out of reach. I found the GHT installation video from years ago, watched it once and installed this intercooler the next day. Everything fits like a glove and although I haven’t done a before/after dyno comparison, this car has some serious balls with the GHT tune, Reische thermostat, FMS plugs, MAP sensor and Stainless Works downpipes. Thanks!

Unfortunately my Intercooler arrived with a slightly bent inlet opening on the adapter, but it was solved with tools at the house and able to be installed correctly! Gearhead was awesome and offered me a replacement, or a partial refund once I reached out and sent photos. Very nice customer service with quick response times!
Now onto the part, my only gripe was the black painted heads for the screws for the inlet adapter. Easily solvable once you've got tools on it, and the fit, finish, weight, and build quality is immediately apparent over the stock part.
Installation went very well using the installation video from Gearhead's youtube channel and a few hours of time. The best part of this whole experience was no REQUIRED re-tune.
The gains in power are really apparent up top, 4200RPM and up pull hard now, especially in third. The childish wastegate noises are also very fun if you let off throttle up in that rev range.
My one issue was a boost leak after install, and this was a vacuum line going to the intake that kept blowing off and was patched easily with a zip tie so watch out for that.

This looks premium quality with fit and finish, instantly feel the power upgrade after install.

Have not installed it yet.. looking forward on the gains with your custom tune. Awesome built quality. Thanks guys!!

Gearhead Intercooler made a whole lot of difference in acceleration and power. I'm glad I picked one up. It opened up my car in added whp.

Beset single upgrade i have purchased next to the turbos

Haven’t put too many miles on it yet, but all I’ve seen are results from other SHO owners so I’m happy
